Body of missing man found
Hartbeespoort – The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Hartbeespoort Dam duty crew were called to a scene where a vehicle that plummeted into the dam at the Randburg Bridge on Saturday 19 March at around 23:45.
The tracking company notified towing services about the location of the vehicle after they were alerted about a disconnected battery. The car was found semi-submerged in dense hyacinth, and the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found.
NSRI rescue swimmers, SRU (Strategic Rescue Unit) members, SA Police Services and the Police Dive Unit collaborated to search for the missing man. Hampered by dense hyacinth the search had to be resumed the following day.
Big D and Eagle Towing Services recovered the vehicle from the dam under the authority and supervision of the police.
Police spokesperson captain Afje Botma confirmed that the body of the 37-year-old Robert Ganyani Bila was found on 22 March. Investigations are underway.
